Usage of plastic foundations increases up to 50% honey production.
What are plastic foundations like?
The plastic foundations have built bee cells
high 3-3,5 mm.
In comparison to wax foundations
Plastic foundations are preferred in modern bee keeping. Attaching it to the wooden frame is quick and easy-no drilling, no wiring and sticking. Just snap it in place, it will not sag or bend. If you desire to destroy some comb on it, for example drone comb, and just scrape it off with a hive tool and give back to the bees and they will rebuild it in worker comb. The bees start immediately gathering honey as the walls of the cells are semi-built. The production of honey increases, because is reduced the production of wax necessary for building the comb. The bees require ~8 kg of honey to produce one kg of wax. These kinds of foundations are manifold used. Wax moth cannot damage plastic foundations and chemical substances do not precipitate in them.
Attention. Glued with silicone on 6-8 points.
Peculiarities of using plastic foundations
Plastic and wax frames are not mixed. It is necessary to spray the waxed plastic foundation with sugar water first to attract the bees.
If for a certain reason the comb is totally damaged, it is necessary to put it for few minutes in warm water-80ºC.
